The church is a short distance from the site of the old church and graveyard which dates back to the Middle Ages. The present church was completed in 1834 by Fr. George Leonard.
Both Fr. Grehan and Fr. Barry made beautiful additions to the building. In the 1930s the walls of the church were decorated with mosaic. The church altar has been changed to meet the liturgical changes brought in by Vatican II. The final addition to this church was the installation of the steel framed bell tower in 1993.
